Carr & Day & Martin Belvoir Step 1 Tack Cleaner – 500ml

Belvoir Step 1 is the cleaning half of Carr & Day & Martin's two-stage tack routine. It lifts ingrained grease, sweat and dirt so they wipe off instead of being ground further into the grain, and the formula is pH neutral — which is the part that matters, because an alkaline soap is what rots stitching and dries leather out over a season.

It is a spray, so it reaches the awkward places on a bridle without a bucket of water, and it works on synthetic leather as well as real hide. Five minutes of contact time shifts grease that has built up under a girth or behind a saddle flap. Clean with this first, then condition with Belvoir Step 2 while the leather is receptive.

Performance & Benefits
  • Lifts ingrained grease, sweat and dirt so they wipe away easily.
  • pH neutral, so it does not rot the stitching or over-dry the leather.
  • Hygienically cleans saddlery rather than simply moving dirt about.
  • Works on synthetic leather as well as real hide.
  • Leaves the surface ready for conditioning straight away.
  • Results are immediate, with no soaking or drying time to plan around.
<>
Suitable For
  • Saddles, bridles, girths, stirrup leathers, harness and synthetic tack.
  • Regular cleaning after riding, and deeper cleaning of greasy areas.
  • Tack that has come out of storage with mould on it.
  • Anyone running the two-step Belvoir routine, with Step 2 Tack Conditioner following on.
  • Not for aniline or untreated leather, suede or nubuck — leave those to a specialist cleaner.
<>
How to Use
  • Spray directly onto the leather and wipe clean.
  • For ingrained grease, leave it in contact for five minutes before wiping.
  • If mould is present, do not re-use the cloth — dispose of it away from your other leather items.
  • Follow with Belvoir Step 2 Tack Conditioner while the leather is clean.
  • Test on a hidden area before the first use.
<>
Specification
  • 500ml trigger spray.
  • pH neutral formulation, safe on stitching.
  • Suitable for real and synthetic leather.
  • Step 1 of the two-step Belvoir routine; Step 2 is the Belvoir Tack Conditioner.
  • Carr & Day & Martin list the Step 1 Tack Cleaner Spray in 500ml only, and publish no ingredient breakdown, so none is given here.
<>
Care & Caution
  • Not suitable for aniline or untreated leather, suede or nubuck. Test on a hidden area before use.
  • Where you are cleaning mould off, throw the cloth away afterwards and keep it well clear of your other tack — a re-used cloth spreads spores straight onto clean leather.
  • Clean the surface; do not soak the leather. Waterlogged leather dries hard and weak.
