Puppy/Junior is the growth diet in the Chudleys working range, built on poultry meal declared as a minimum 14% chicken and 14% duck. Protein is 28% and oil 14%, which is the highest fat level Chudleys run outside Working Crunch, because a growing pup burns through energy faster than it can eat. Chudleys take it from weaning at two to three weeks right through to adulthood, and feed it to bitches in whelp and in milk.

The additions are aimed squarely at growth. Marine algae supplies DHA for brain and eye development, egg powder adds a highly digestible protein, and glucosamine and green lipped mussel go in early for joints — worth having in a large breed that will grow fast. Yeast at 2,000mg/kg provides mannan oligosaccharides for a gut that is still settling.

Feeding

• Chudleys set the daily amount by age and by adult breed size, from under 25g a day for a puppy under a month to 540–610g for a very large breed at twelve to eighteen months.
• Split the daily ration across three or four meals for a young puppy, dropping to two by around six months.
• Feed to condition — you should feel the ribs easily without seeing them.
• Fresh water available at all times; soak the kibble for the youngest puppies.
