Chudleys Senior Dry Dog Food – 14kg

Senior is Chudleys' diet for the older working dog, which they put at roughly seven years onwards. Oil comes down to 8% because an older dog usually does less, while protein is held at 21% — higher than Classic — to help an ageing dog keep muscle. Hydrolysed chicken at a minimum 26% poultry sits high in the composition, which makes it easy to digest.

What separates it from the rest of the range is the functional tail: green lipped mussel, milk thistle, dandelion leaves, celery seed, nettle leaves, devil's claw root and burdock root, alongside seaweed and full fat linseed. Chudleys describe this as a joint care package with omega 3, with milk thistle there for the liver.

Suitable For

Feeding

• Small dogs, 5–10kg: 110–180g a day.
• Medium dogs, 10–25kg: 180–360g a day.
• Large dogs, 25–45kg: 360–550g a day.
• Very large dogs over 45kg: 550g and upwards.
• Two meals a day suits most older dogs better than one. Fresh water at all times.
• Move across from the previous food over a week or so.

Care & Caution

• This diet contains devil's claw root. Devil's claw is not advised for pregnant bitches or for dogs with gastric or duodenal ulceration.
• Check with your vet before feeding it alongside anti-inflammatory or pain medication, as the herbal joint package overlaps with what those drugs do.
• Stiffness that comes on suddenly, or lameness on one leg, is a reason to see a vet rather than to change food.
