Its energy content is comparable to good quality hay, so it supports weight gain and maintenance without producing over-excitability. The longer chewing time it demands supports dental and digestive health, and the alfalfa and grasses are carefully dried for dust reduction and improved hygiene, which suits an older horse's airways.

Feeding

• Molassed at 10% sugar. Not the right choice for a laminitic veteran — consider Hi-Fi Molasses Free instead.
• If an older horse is losing weight despite eating well, have its teeth checked before changing the feed.
