Derma Gel Wound Care Hydrogel – 50ml Spray

The same isotonic hydrogel as the 100ml tube, in a spray. Nothing has to touch the horse: you stand at arm's length and put the gel where it needs to go, which on a horse that will not have a leg handled is the difference between the job getting done and not.

The formulation is all but identical — the only published difference is that the carbomer in the tube is absent from the spray. Derma Gel state the same properties for it: a protective layer, a moist wound environment, bacteriostatic action, and nothing needed over the top.

<>
Performance & Benefits
  • Hands-free application for horses that will not stand to be touched.
  • Reaches wounds on the barrel, the quarters and high on a limb without a bandage or a hand.
  • Forms a protective layer; no secondary dressing required.
  • The manufacturer states it reduces healing time by 60% and maintains epithelial cell viability at 97%.
  • Described by the manufacturer as bacteriostatic, and as carrying an insect-repellent feature.
  • Small enough to live in a travelling first aid kit.
<>
Suitable For
  • Fractious or needle-shy horses, and youngstock.
  • Wounds in awkward places, or where there is a lot of movement.
  • Wire cuts, bites, scrapes and skin loss following trauma.
  • Yards and lorries wanting a compact wound product to hand.
  • For a large area, or a wound you want covered thickly, the Derma Gel 100ml tube goes further and applies heavier.
<>
How to Use
  • Cleanse the area daily with warm water or a saline solution only.
  • Avoid hosing the wound directly at pressure.
  • Spray three to four times a day.
  • Hold the bottle close enough that the gel lands where you want it rather than misting over it.
<>
Specification
  • 50ml spray bottle. Also supplied as a 100ml tube.
  • Ingredients: water, alcohol, propylene glycol, Sorbus (Pyrus sorbus) extract, glycerin, Hydrocotyle (Centella asiatica) extract, Calendula officinalis extract, hydrogenated castor oil, sodium bicarbonate, sweet marjoram (Origanum majorana) extract, lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) extract, thyme (Thymus vulgaris) extract, sage (Salvia officinalis) extract.
  • The spray formulation omits the carbomer used in the gel.
<>
Care & Caution
  • Deep wounds, punctures, wounds too wide for the sides to meet, and anything near a tendon, ligament or joint need a vet, not a spray.
  • For external use only. Keep the spray out of eyes.
