Digby & Fox Rolled Leather Dog Collar – Black, Size L

A rolled collar is leather stitched into a round cord rather than left as a flat strap, and on a long-coated dog it is the difference between a collar that parts the coat and one that flattens a permanent band into it. Shires make this one in soft rolled leather with brass fittings and a die-cast Digby & Fox tag on the ring.

Size L on Shires' rolled and padded collar guide takes a 53–58cm neck, which is a big dog — a large labrador, a golden retriever, a rough collie, a setter. Black is one of five colours Shires produce it in, alongside brown, lilac, navy and tan, and there is a matching rolled leather lead in the same range.

Performance & Benefits
  • Soft leather stitched into a round rolled profile rather than a flat strap.
  • Parts a long or feathered coat instead of pressing a flat band into it.
  • Brass buckle and fittings, with a die-cast Digby & Fox tag on the ring.
  • Made in five colours — black, brown, lilac, navy and tan.
  • Matching Digby & Fox Rolled Leather Dog Lead available separately.
  • Shires product code 6885.

Suitable For
  • Dogs with a 53–58cm neck, on Shires' rolled and padded collar guide.
  • Retrievers, setters, rough collies, large labradors and similar big dogs.
  • Long-coated and feathered breeds that mark under a flat collar.
  • Everyday wear with tags, and lead walking on a flat lead.
  • Not for a dog that swims daily or works in water — repeated soaking ruins leather, and a webbing collar is the sensible choice there.

How to Use
  • Measure the neck with a soft tape where the collar will sit, then read Shires' rolled and padded chart rather than their standard collar chart — the two differ.
  • Buckle it so two fingers slide comfortably underneath.
  • Wipe clean, which is Shires' own care instruction for this collar.
  • Dry it naturally, away from direct heat, if it gets wet.
  • Work a little leather balsam into it occasionally to keep the roll supple.

Care & Caution
  • Leather must not be soaked. Do not machine wash, tumble dry or leave it on a dog that swims regularly.
  • A buckle collar is not a breakaway — take it off a dog left crated or unattended, where the ring and tag can catch.
  • Do not use the collar as a tie-out or tether point.
  • Check the stitching where the roll meets the buckle and the D-ring; a rolled collar fails at the seam rather than across the strap.
  • Replace it once the leather has dried, cracked or stretched out of shape.
