Dodson & Horrell Build & Glow – 18kg
Build & Glow is Dodson & Horrell's most calorie-dense conditioning feed, built around oats, wheat, full fat soya and linseed, with rapeseed and vegetable oils taking crude oil to 22%. That oil, rather than sheer bulk, is where most of the 16.5MJ/kg of digestible energy comes from, so the horse takes the calories in a small meal.
It is aimed squarely at the horse that will not hold weight — the poor doer, the one coming back from a period of loss, the show animal that needs a covering. Starch is declared at 25%, which is high, so it belongs with horses in work and under supervision rather than with anything metabolically fragile.
<>Performance & Benefits
- 16.5MJ/kg estimated digestible energy, the densest calorie source in the Dodson & Horrell conditioning range.
- Crude oils and fats at 22%, from rapeseed oil, full fat soya and full fat linseed meal.
- Crude protein 14%, with lysine at 8.0g/kg and methionine at 2g/kg, so muscle is supported alongside fat cover.
- Small feed volumes carry the calories, which suits a horse that will not clear a large bucket.
- Blackcurrant, oregano, pomegranate, nettle and seaweed meal are included in the mix.
- Fed alongside forage rather than in place of it.
Suitable For
- Poor doers and horses that struggle to hold condition.
- Horses rebuilding condition after a period of weight loss.
- Show horses and ponies needing a covering.
- Horses in work whose energy demand is not met by forage alone.
- Not the feed for a laminitic, insulin-dysregulated or ulcer-prone horse — at 25% starch, Dodson & Horrell's Safe & Sound is the one to use there.
Feeding
- Feed 100g per 100kg bodyweight per day, alongside free access to forage.
- Do not exceed 200g per 100kg bodyweight per day in total.
- Divide the daily amount into at least two to three meals.
- Introduce gradually and adjust to condition and workload.
- Fresh, clean water at all times.
Composition & Analysis
- Composition: oats; wheat; full fat soya (GM soya); full fat linseed meal; rapeseed oil; barley; vegetable oil and fat; calcium carbonate; choline chloride; blackcurrant, oregano, pomegranate; nettle; seaweed meal.
- Crude protein 14.0%. Crude fibre 8%. Crude oils and fats 22.0%. Crude ash 5.5%.
- Starch 25%. Sugar 2.5%.
- Lysine 8.0g/kg. Methionine 2g/kg.
- Estimated digestible energy 16.5MJ/kg. Bag size 18kg.
Care & Caution
- Starch at 25% makes this unsuitable for horses prone to laminitis, insulin dysregulation or gastric ulceration.
- Do not exceed 200g per 100kg bodyweight daily, and split the ration into small meals — at this starch level that matters.
- Build the amount up slowly. A sudden jump in a cereal-based feed is a colic risk.
