Dodson & Horrell Devil’s Claw Root – 1.5kg
This is a single-herb supplement: pure dried devil’s claw root, with nothing blended in. The root comes from southern Africa, where it has a long history of use for its soothing properties, and Dodson & Horrell sell it for horses and ponies whose joints and muscles stiffen with age or with a hard working life behind them.
Because it is one ingredient rather than a formula, the dose is small — a 15ml scoop weighing 10g, one or two a day — and a 1.5kg tub runs for a long time. It is also the reason the competition rules matter: devil’s claw is an active herb, and it carries a stated withdrawal period.
<>Performance & Benefits
- 100% devil’s claw root, with no fillers, carriers or added herbs.
- Fed to encourage joint mobility and ease of movement.
- Soothing support for horses with general stiffness or a muscular and joint history.
- A single ingredient, so it can be fed alongside a joint supplement without doubling up on a whole formula.
- Small daily dose — a 1.5kg tub lasts a larger horse around ten weeks.
Suitable For
- Older horses and ponies showing general stiffness.
- Horses naturally predisposed to muscular and joint problems.
- Horses on an otherwise balanced diet needing one targeted addition.
- Not for mares in foal, and not for a horse competing inside the withdrawal period below — Dodson & Horrell Mobility is the blend to look at where devil’s claw has to be avoided, though it too contains the root.
Feeding
- Ponies and smaller horses: 1 scoop per day, 10g.
- Larger horses: 2 scoops per day, 20g.
- One scoop is 15ml and weighs 10g. Use the scoop supplied.
- Mix into the daily feed; feed continuously for the effect to build.
- Do not exceed the stated rate without consulting Dodson & Horrell or your vet.
Composition & Analysis
- Composition: 100% devil’s claw root, dried.
- Analytical constituents: crude fibre 8.0%. Dodson & Horrell declare no other constituent for this product, so none is stated here.
- Supplied as a dried root in a 1.5kg tub with a 15ml scoop.
Care & Caution
- Fed alone at the stated rate, withdraw a minimum of 4 days — 96 hours — before a race or competition. Dodson & Horrell state this themselves.
- Do not feed to mares in foal.
- Devil’s claw is not recommended for horses with gastric ulcers, and should not be fed alongside anti-inflammatory medication without veterinary advice.
