Dodson & Horrell High Fibre Nuts – 20kg

High Fibre Nuts are the sensible everyday cube for a horse that holds condition on fresh air. The recipe is grain free and built on forage sources — oatfeed, dried beet pulp, wheatfeed and grass meal — which keeps protein down at 8% and energy at 10 MJ/kg while still delivering a fully balanced feed rather than an empty filler.

They soak readily, and that is the second job they do: fed wet, they become a partial forage replacer for an older horse or one whose teeth no longer cope with long fibre. Fed dry, they are simply a low-calorie way to carry a balancer or a supplement into a horse in light work.

Performance & Benefits
  • Grain-free recipe with starch at 10.5% and sugar at 5%.
  • 18% crude fibre from a blend of forage sources, to keep digestive transit moving.
  • Low in calories and protein at 10 MJ/kg and 8%, but fully balanced with vitamins and minerals.
  • Soaks quickly and can be fed wet or dry.
  • Works as a partial forage replacer where chewing hay has become hard work.
  • A practical carrier for a balancer or supplement without adding calories.
<>
Suitable For
  • Good doers at rest or in light work.
  • Excitable horses and ponies that do not need cereal energy.
  • Older horses struggling to chew long forage, fed soaked.
  • Horses needing bulk in the bucket without weight gain.
  • Not a performance feed — a horse in hard or competition work needs Dodson & Horrell Staypower Cubes or Elite Sport Muesli instead.
<>
Feeding
  • Feed 400g to 1kg per 100kg bodyweight per day — 2 to 5kg for a 500kg horse.
  • Do not exceed 1kg per 100kg bodyweight per day in total.
  • Divide into at least two to three meals a day.
  • Keep forage intake at a minimum of 2kg per 100kg bodyweight per day.
  • To soak, cover with water and allow the cubes to break down fully before feeding.

Composition & Analysis
  • Composition: oatfeed, dried beet pulp, wheatfeed, grass meal, molasses, sodium chloride, dicalcium phosphate, calcium carbonate.
  • Analytical constituents: crude protein 8.0%, crude oils and fats 2.8%, crude fibre 18.0%, starch 10.5%, sugar 5.0%.
  • Estimated digestible energy 10 MJ/kg.
  • Supplied in 20kg bags.
  • Dodson & Horrell publish no crude ash figure for this feed, so none is stated. Combined starch and sugar of 15.5% is above the level usually advised for a laminitic, despite claims to the contrary on some retail listings — take veterinary advice before feeding to a horse with a history of laminitis.
