Dodson & Horrell Itch-Free – 1kg

Itch-Free is a four-herb blend aimed at the horse who rubs. Nettle and burdock root carry the minerals Dodson & Horrell associate with normal skin and coat; chamomile is there for its settling effect on an animal made restless by the irritation; garlic granules support the immune and circulatory side of it.

It works from the inside, which means it is a long game rather than a quick fix — fed daily at two to two and a half 25g scoops, a 1kg tub covers around three weeks on a larger horse. Most owners start it ahead of the midge season rather than once the horse is already sore.

<>
Performance & Benefits
  • Nettle and burdock root, chosen for the minerals that support the formation and maintenance of normal skin and coat.
  • Chamomile, long used for its calming and soothing properties in a horse irritated by its own skin.
  • Garlic granules to support immune and circulatory function.
  • A dried blend, so it mixes straight into hard feed with no soaking or preparation.
  • One of the higher-protein herbal blends in the range at 21%, though the daily dose is small.
<>
Suitable For
  • Horses and ponies with itchy, irritated skin through the midge months.
  • Horses whose coat and skin condition dips with the seasons.
  • Feeding alongside physical measures — a fly rug, a barrier cream, stabling at dawn and dusk.
  • Not for mares in foal, and not a substitute for veterinary treatment where the skin is broken, weeping or infected. Dodson & Horrell Mud Heel is their blend for the mud-related skin problems of winter rather than summer itching.

Feeding
  • Ponies and smaller horses: 2 scoops per day, 50g.
  • Larger horses: 2½ scoops per day, about 62.5g.
  • One 100ml scoop weighs 25g. Use the scoop supplied.
  • Mix into the daily feed and give it several weeks before judging the effect.
  • Do not exceed the stated rate without consulting Dodson & Horrell or your vet.
<>
Composition & Analysis
  • Composition: nettle, burdock root, chamomile, garlic granules.
  • Analytical constituents: crude protein 21.0%, crude oils and fats 3.0%, crude fibre 8.0%, crude ash 12.0%, sodium 0.2%.
  • Supplied as a dried blend in a 1kg tub with a 100ml scoop.
  • Dodson & Horrell make no claim that this blend is suitable for laminitic ponies, so no such claim is made here.
<>
Care & Caution
  • Do not feed to mares in foal.
  • Garlic fed heavily and continuously has been linked to changes in red blood cells; stay at the stated scoop rate.
  • Garlic is restricted in some competition disciplines. Check the current rules before feeding to a competing horse.
