Dodson & Horrell Milk Thistle – 500g
Milk thistle is one of the oldest herbs in the feed room, and Dodson & Horrell sell it here as a single pure dried herb with nothing blended in. Its reputation rests on silymarin, the compound in the seed, and it is fed for nutritional support of normal liver function rather than for anything you will see in the horse’s coat or condition.
The dose is light — a 12g scoop, two or two and a half a day — so a 500g tub runs about two and a half weeks on a larger horse. Being one ingredient, it slots in alongside an existing balancer or supplement without duplicating anything.
<>Performance & Benefits
- 100% pure dried milk thistle, with no carrier, filler or added herbs.
- Fed for nutritional support of normal liver function.
- Silymarin, the compound the herb’s long reputation is built on, occurs naturally in the seed.
- A single ingredient, easy to add to a diet that is already balanced.
- Small daily scoop, so a tub goes further than the pack size suggests.
Suitable For
- Horses and ponies needing nutritional support for normal liver function.
- Older horses, and horses recovering condition after a period of ill health.
- Owners who prefer a single named herb to a proprietary blend.
- Not for mares in foal. A horse with diagnosed liver disease needs veterinary management — this is a feed material, not a medicine.
Feeding
- Ponies and smaller horses: 2 scoops per day, 24g.
- Larger horses: 2½ scoops per day, 30g.
- One 100ml scoop weighs 12g. Use the scoop supplied.
- Mix into the daily feed and feed continuously; herbs of this kind are not a single-dose product.
- Do not exceed the stated rate without consulting Dodson & Horrell or your vet.
Composition & Analysis
- Composition: pure dried milk thistle herb.
- Analytical constituents: crude protein 16.5%, crude fibre 19.0%.
- Dodson & Horrell declare no oil, ash or sodium figure for this herb, and publish no silymarin content, so none is stated here.
- Supplied in a 500g tub with a 100ml scoop.
Care & Caution
- Do not feed to mares in foal.
- Speak to your vet before feeding to a horse on prescribed medication, since liver function affects how drugs are cleared.
