Placid pairs three calming herbs — chamomile, lemon balm and vervain — with magnesium oxide, which is the part that distinguishes it from a purely botanical calmer. Magnesium sits at 1.5% of the blend and is included for its role in normal nervous system function and an even temperament.

It is aimed at the horse who is genuinely wired rather than simply under-worked, and Dodson & Horrell are clear that it belongs alongside sorting out the triggers rather than instead of it. Fed at one and a half to two 15g scoops, a 1kg tub lasts a larger horse about a month.

Feeding

• Ponies and smaller horses: 1½ scoops per day, about 22.5g.
• Larger horses: 2 scoops per day, 30g.
• One 100ml scoop weighs 15g. Use the scoop supplied.
• Feed daily and allow time to take effect rather than using it as a pre-event dose.
• Do not exceed the stated rate without consulting Dodson & Horrell or your vet.

Care & Caution

• Do not feed to mares in foal.
• Contains added magnesium. Do not feed alongside another magnesium supplement or a magnesium-fortified balancer without checking the combined intake with your vet or nutritionist.
