Dr John Hypoallergenic Chicken with Oats – 12.5kg
Dr John Hypoallergenic is Gilbertson & Page’s wheat-free working-dog food, built on barley with poultry meal declared at 26% chicken. Wheat is the cereal dogs react to most often, so taking it out while leaving a familiar poultry protein in place suits the dog whose stomach turns on a standard mixer but who has never had a problem with chicken itself.
It is a moderate-energy recipe rather than a performance one — 21% protein and 10.5% oils and fats — which puts it with the working dog in regular rather than hard work, and with the adult pet dog that needs a plain, digestible bowl. Chicken fat carries the palatability, and yucca extract is included at the end of the list.
<>Performance & Benefits
- Wheat-free throughout — the cereal base is barley, maize and oats.
- Poultry meal declared at 26% chicken, with chicken fat and chicken gravy for palatability.
- Protein 21% and oils and fats 10.5%: enough for steady work without the excess that puts weight on a resting dog.
- Low crude fibre at 3%, which keeps the volume of the meal down.
- Yucca extract included in the composition.
- Sold in 12.5kg, and in 4kg for a smaller household.
Suitable For
- Adult dogs, working or pet, in light to regular work.
- Dogs that react to wheat-based mixers and complete foods.
- Feeders who want a plain cereal-and-poultry recipe rather than a novel-protein diet.
- Kennels feeding several dogs, where a 12.5kg sack is the practical unit.
- Not suitable for a dog that reacts to poultry itself — chicken is the protein throughout, so a lamb or a fish-based recipe is the one to look at instead.
Feeding
- Small dogs under 10kg: up to 200g a day.
- Medium dogs 10–20kg: 200–370g a day.
- Large dogs 20–45kg: 370–680g a day.
- Giant dogs over 45kg: over 680g a day.
- Gilbertson & Page say the daily amount can be given in one or more meals, fed dry or mixed with water or gravy to preference.
- Change over gradually across several days, and keep fresh water available at all times.
