Dulce Amargura, "sweet bitterness," is a tequila house from El Arenal, Jalisco, in the Tequila Valley, whose calling card is its hand-painted ceramic bottles made by Mexican artisans. This is the joven, the style that sits between blanco and reposado. It's produced at NOM 1466 from 100% blue Weber agave that grows for around five years before the brand's jimadores harvest it, using methods the house has followed for more than 30 years. The agave is cooked slowly in a stone and brick oven, crushed on a roller mill, fermented in stainless steel tanks, and double distilled in stainless pot stills with deep well water. Retailer tasting notes describe a bright, luminous tequila with silver shades and a light straw color, preserved fruit on the nose, peach, cherry and ripe banana, with cinnamon, black pepper and a delicate mint-like herbal edge. The palate is balanced, silky and sweet, with preserved fruit, honey, cooked agave and cinnamon lingering on the finish.
