Earth Animal No-Hide Beef Chew – Large

No-Hide is Earth Animal’s answer to rawhide: instead of a lime-and-bleach-treated hide offcut, the roll is built from beef and brown rice flour bound with agar-agar and egg, then hand-rolled, cooked and dried. It chews down in layers the way a rawhide does, but it breaks up in the gut rather than swelling into a plug.

The analysis is unusually meat-heavy for a chew — a minimum of 50% crude protein against 4% fat — so it behaves as a protein treat rather than a fat one. Earth Animal reckon on roughly 45 minutes to an hour of chewing from a roll, though a determined jaw will go faster.

Performance & Benefits
  • A rawhide alternative made from food ingredients, with no bleaches, chemical hide treatment or formaldehyde in the process.
  • Crude protein a minimum of 50%, crude fat a minimum of 4%, crude fibre a maximum of 2%, moisture a maximum of 13%.
  • Hand-rolled, cooked and dried, so the layers peel rather than shearing off in slabs.
  • Earth Animal put a roll at about 45 minutes to an hour of chewing, depending on the dog.
  • Sustained chewing works the gums and scrapes the tooth surface.
  • Made in the Large roll size as well as Medium and Small.
<>
Suitable For
  • Larger dogs — Earth Animal size the Large roll for dogs over 70lb, about 32kg.
  • Dogs whose owners have moved away from rawhide but still want a long chew.
  • Occasional treating and settling a dog in a crate or on a mat.
  • Puppies from six months, which is Earth Animal’s own lower limit for the range.
  • Too big for a small or toy breed as a routine chew — the 4 inch Small roll is the one for a dog of 10–40lb.
<>
Feeding
  • Earth Animal state this is for intermittent or supplemental feeding only, not as part of the daily ration.
  • Their rule is to pick a chew larger than the dog’s mouth, and to size up when you are between sizes.
  • Offer one roll at a time and take up what is left once it is chewed down small.
  • Keep fresh water available while a dog is working at a dried chew.
  • Count the calories against the day’s food on a dog watching its weight — at 50% protein this is a substantial treat.

Composition & Analysis
  • Ingredients: beef, brown rice flour, agar-agar, eggs, olive oil, oregano extract, cherry extract, flaxseed, banana powder, pineapple stem.
  • Guaranteed analysis: crude protein minimum 50%, crude fat minimum 4%, crude fibre maximum 2%, moisture maximum 13%.
  • Earth Animal publish no calorie figure for the rolls.
  • Earth Animal size the No-Hide rolls by length rather than weight — Large is an 11 inch roll — and publish no gram weight for them.
  • Retail copy describing this as a seven-ingredient chew is out of date: Earth Animal’s current declaration lists the ten ingredients above.

Care & Caution
  • Always supervise a dog with a chew of any kind, and stop the session if the dog is gulping rather than gnawing.
  • Take the roll away once it is small enough to swallow whole — the end of a chew is where the choking risk sits.
  • A dog that bolts food rather than chewing it is the wrong dog for a hard roll; a lick mat or a stuffed rubber toy is safer.
  • Introduce it in short sessions on a dog unused to dried chews, as a sudden large protein load can loosen the stools.
