Echinacea 1kg
Equus Health Echinacea – 1kg
Straight dried echinacea, sold as a single herb with nothing blended into it, in a 1kg tub. Equus Health describe it as a well-known herb for supporting the immune system and red blood cells, fed either as steady day-to-day support or brought in at the points in the year when a horse could do with extra help — a hard winter, a heavy competition run, or the weeks after illness.
Because it is one herb and not a compound supplement, it goes into an existing feeding regime without duplicating anything already in a balancer. It mixes into a damp feed, and many people prefer to make it into an infusion first, on the basis that steeping releases the active constituents and makes them easier for the horse to take up than dry leaf alone.
<>Performance & Benefits
- A single herb at 100%, with no fillers, carriers or blended extras.
- Fed for immune support and, in Equus Health’s words, for red blood cells.
- Suits day-to-day support or a short course when a horse needs extra help.
- Slots into an existing feed regime without duplicating a balancer’s ingredients.
- Can be fed dry or made into an infusion, which many owners find works faster.
- 1kg tub, which is four to seven weeks of feeding depending on the animal.
Suitable For
- Horses and ponies in work, at rest or recovering from illness.
- Horses through a hard winter or a heavy competition season.
- Owners who want one named herb rather than a multi-ingredient supplement.
- Feeding alongside a balancer, since there is nothing here to double up on.
- Not the product for a horse that needs broad vitamin and mineral cover — a balancer does that job and this does not.
Feeding
- Equus Health feed 30g daily for a horse, or roughly three 50ml scoops.
- For a pony they feed 20g daily, or roughly two 50ml scoops.
- At those rates a 1kg tub lasts about 33 days for a horse or about 50 days for a pony.
- Mix into a damp feed so the dry leaf does not sift to the bottom of the bucket.
- To feed as an infusion, steep the measured dose in hot water, let it cool, and pour the liquid and the herb over the feed.
- Older copy on this page quoted 10–20g daily and a 1kg pack lasting 90 days for a pony or 45 days for a horse. Those figures are not Equus Health’s; the rates above are.
Composition & Analysis
- Composition: echinacea 100%. Nothing else is added.
- Equus Health publish no typical analysis for this herb — no protein, oil, fibre or ash figure — so none is stated here. Do not assume figures quoted for other brands of echinacea apply to this one.
- Supplied as dried cut herb in a 1kg tub.
Care & Caution
- Equus Health publish no contraindications. Dodson & Horrell, who sell the same single herb, warn against feeding pure echinacea to mares in foal — worth raising with your vet before feeding a pregnant mare.
- Immune-stimulant herbs are usually fed in courses rather than indefinitely; take veterinary advice for a horse with an autoimmune condition.
- If you compete, check the current rules of your governing body before feeding any herb.
