Pure alfalfa compressed into a pellet, at 18% protein and 30% fibre with an estimated 10.7 MJ/kg. That protein figure is roughly double what a grass forage supplies, which is why alfalfa is the usual answer for a horse carrying enough weight but short of topline — muscle is built from amino acids, not calories.

The pelleted form is a practical improvement on chopped alfalfa: it stores in a fraction of the space, it weighs out accurately in a scoop, and it soaks down into a soft mash for a horse with poor teeth. Sugar sits at 8.9% and starch at 5%, which is moderate rather than low.

Feeding
