Linseed grown and micronised by Equimins, at 39% oil, of which 56% is omega-3 and 16% omega-6. Raw linseed is not something to feed a horse, which is why cooking and micronising matter: the process deactivates the problem compounds and breaks the seed coat down so the oil is actually available rather than passing straight through.

The argument for a micronised seed over a bottle of linseed oil is that you get the fibre and the 23% protein along with the oil, rather than oil alone, and a powder is a good deal less messy to handle in a feed room. Fed regularly it is one of the more reliable ways to put a shine on a dull coat.

Feeding

• Ponies: up to 70g per day. Horses: up to 140g per day.
