Equus Health Comfrey Leaves – 1kg

Comfrey leaf has carried the country name knitbone for centuries, and Equus Health file it under hooves, muscles and bones for exactly that reason. They describe it as traditionally used on bone, cartilage and connective tissue, and as a source of vitamin B12 and allantoin, reputed to help with new cell growth and cell production.

It is a big, coarse leaf that dries to a light, bulky material, so 30g looks like a good deal more in the scoop than the same weight of a seed or a root. A 1kg pack at the published rate is a little over a month, which suits the way comfrey is usually fed — as a course through a period of repair rather than year round.

<>
Performance & Benefits
  • Dried comfrey leaf on its own, with nothing blended in.
  • Traditionally fed for bone, cartilage and connective tissue, which is how Equus Health describe it.
  • A source of vitamin B12 and of allantoin.
  • Reputed to support new cell growth and cell production.
  • Equus Health list it in their hooves, muscles and bones range rather than as a general conditioner.
<>
Suitable For
  • Horses being brought back into work after a period of repair.
  • Owners who want the single traditional herb rather than a joint blend built around it.
  • Horses already on a balanced ration, as a targeted addition rather than a replacement for one.
  • Fed as a course over weeks rather than as a permanent fixture of the feed.
  • Not for a mare in foal without veterinary advice — Equus Health say so on the pack. A broodmare wanting general support is better served by Equus Health Seaweed.
<>
Feeding
  • Horses and ponies: approximately 30g daily.
  • Equus Health give the equivalent as three 50ml scoops per day.
  • One published rate covers horses and ponies; no separate figure is given by height or bodyweight.
  • Damp the feed before adding it — dried leaf is light and blows about.
  • 1kg at 30g a day is roughly 33 days for one horse.
<>
Composition & Analysis
  • Composition: 100% comfrey leaves. 1kg pack.
  • Equus Health name vitamin B12 and allantoin as constituents but publish no quantity for either, so no figures are given here.
  • No typical analysis is published — no protein, oil, fibre, sugar or ash percentages are declared by Equus Health.
<>
Care & Caution
  • Seek veterinary advice before feeding to pregnant mares. This is Equus Health's own warning and it is printed on the pack.
  • Comfrey is a herb normally fed in courses rather than continuously; if you intend to feed it long term, take veterinary advice first.
  • Equus Health publish no competition status for comfrey. Check the current FEI, BHA and British Eventing rules before feeding it to a horse under those rules.
