Equus Health Seaweed & Rosehips – 3kg

Equus Health sell this as an alternative hoof supplement: seaweed and rosehips blended in one bag rather than bought and scooped separately. Their claim for it is narrow and specific — a natural source of vitamins and nutrients including biotin and vitamin C for strong horn growth.

It is fed at a much higher rate than either herb alone, 70g a day for a horse, so a 3kg bag is around six weeks. Hoof horn grows slowly, roughly a centimetre a month, so anything fed for the foot has to be fed for months before there is anything to look at.

<>
Performance & Benefits
  • Seaweed and rosehips blended together, so there is nothing to weigh out separately.
  • Sold by Equus Health specifically as an alternative hoof supplement.
  • A natural source of biotin and vitamin C, which they link to strong horn growth.
  • Provides the broader vitamin and nutrient cover of seaweed at the same time.
  • Separate published feeding rates for horses and for ponies.
<>
Suitable For
  • Horses and ponies with weak, crumbling or slow-growing horn.
  • Owners who want natural biotin from a feed material rather than a synthetic hoof supplement.
  • Long courses — expect to feed it for several months before judging it.
  • Anyone already buying seaweed and rosehips separately who would rather have one bag.
  • Not the pack to buy if the foot is fine and you only want general cover; plain Equus Health Seaweed does that job at a much lower daily rate.
<>
Feeding
  • Horses: approximately 70g daily, which Equus Health give as two 50ml scoops per day.
  • Ponies: approximately 40g daily, given as one 50ml scoop per day.
  • Add to the normal hard feed and mix through.
  • 3kg at the horse rate is about 43 days, and about 75 days at the pony rate.
  • Equus Health also pack this blend in 1kg.
<>
Composition & Analysis
  • Composition: seaweed and rosehips. 3kg pack.
  • Equus Health do not publish the ratio of seaweed to rosehips, so none is quoted here.
  • Biotin and vitamin C are named as constituents but no levels are declared, and no typical analysis is published, so no figures appear here.
<>
Care & Caution
  • The seaweed in this blend brings iodine with it, and no iodine level is published. Check what else the horse is getting before adding it to a fortified balancer or a second seaweed product.
  • Take veterinary advice before feeding it to a mare in foal.
  • A horse with a diagnosed thyroid condition should not be given an iodine-rich supplement without veterinary advice.
  • Sudden or severe hoof problems — a hot foot, a crack that bleeds, an abscess — are a farrier and vet matter, not something to feed through.
