Winter Glow / Summer Shine is the one blended product in this part of the Equus Health range, and the ingredient list explains the name: micronised linseed, fenugreek seeds, garlic granules, seaweed and spearmint. Linseed and fenugreek do the conditioning, seaweed covers the broad vitamin and mineral ground, and the spearmint makes the whole thing palatable.

Equus Health describe it as a natural conditioner that supports the digestive, lymphatic and respiratory systems, provides essential nutrients and aids viral protection. It is fed at a far higher rate than a single herb — 140g a day for a horse — so a 3kg bag is around three weeks for a full-sized horse and six for a pony.

Feeding

• Horses: approximately 140g daily, which Equus Health give as four and a half 50ml scoops per day.
• Ponies: approximately 70g daily, given as two and a half 50ml scoops per day.
• Add to the normal hard feed and mix through.
• 3kg at the horse rate is about 21 days, and about 43 days at the pony rate.

Care & Caution

• The blend contains garlic granules. Garlic fed in quantity over long periods has been linked in published research to anaemia in horses, so take veterinary advice before feeding it continuously all year.
• It also contains seaweed, which brings iodine with it, and no iodine level is published. Check what else the horse is getting before feeding this alongside a fortified balancer or a separate seaweed supplement.
• Garlic is strongly aromatic and carries into the horse's breath and sweat; know what you have fed before any competition sampling.
