Fancy Feeds Layers Pellets – 20kg

A complete pelleted ration for laying birds, fed from point of lay onwards as the whole diet. Fancy Feeds declare 16% protein, 3% oil, 5% fibre and 12% ash — and it is that ash figure that tells you what a layers feed really is, because most of it is the calcium carbonate a hen turns into eggshell.

It is pelleted rather than left as a meal, so birds cannot sort through it and leave the fortification behind in the feeder. Marigold and paprika extract are included as a natural yolk pigment, and Sel-Plex organic selenium as it is across the Fancy Feeds poultry range. The 20kg sack is the standard unit for anything past a handful of birds.

Feeding

• Feed as the complete diet, ad lib from a hopper or feeder.
• Move birds across from grower pellets at 18–21 weeks, the changeover Fancy Feeds specify.
• Do not mix grain or mixed corn through it. Scatter corn separately, sparingly, and after the ration.
• Keep insoluble flint grit available so birds can grind their food, and offer oyster shell separately if shell quality needs more calcium than the ration provides.
• Fresh, clean water constantly available.

• The high ash figure reflects the calcium carbonate, and is precisely why this feed is wrong for a bird that is not laying.
• Bio-Mos appears in Fancy Feeds' chick crumb and grower pellets but is not in the layers pellets declaration.
• Fancy Feeds publish no separate calcium, methionine or vitamin figures for this pellet, so none is stated here.

Care & Caution

• Layers rations carry a high calcium level for shell formation. Fed to chicks or growers, that calcium damages developing kidneys — a genuine welfare problem, and the reason the 18–21 week changeover matters.
• Do not bulk the ration out with mixed corn. Corn is energy with very little protein, and a flock filled up on it drops off lay.
