Farmer Scott's Dried Mealworm – 1kg

A kilo of dried mealworm — the single most effective thing you can put out for robins, wrens, blackbirds and dunnocks, which are insect-eaters first and will largely ignore a seed feeder. A kilo is a great deal by volume: dried larvae weigh almost nothing, so this bag fills a surprising number of feeder trays.

They can go in a dedicated mealworm dish, on a bird table or straight onto the ground. Dried mealworm keeps far better than live, but it is dry, and in the breeding season it is worth soaking a handful in water before putting it out.

Performance & Benefits
  • Dried mealworm, high in protein and taken by insect-eating birds that pass over seed.
  • 1kg bag — a large volume of feed for its weight.
  • Feeds from a mealworm dish, a bird table or a ground tray.
  • Most valuable in the breeding season and through cold spells.
  • Keeps far longer than live mealworm and needs no refrigeration.
<>
Suitable For
  • Robins, wrens and dunnocks, which take insects in preference to seed.
  • Blackbirds, song thrushes, starlings and pied wagtails.
  • Blue tits and great tits, particularly while feeding young.
  • Ground trays, table dishes and dedicated mealworm feeders.
  • Not a substitute for a general mix — pair it with Farmer Scott's Premium Wild Bird Seed Mix for the finches and sparrows.
<>
Feeding
  • Put a small handful in a shallow dish on a bird table or ground tray, or in a mealworm feeder.
  • Offer little and often. Mealworm left out for days attracts vermin and goes stale.
  • Soak a portion in water for a few minutes before feeding during the breeding season.
  • Keep fresh water available for drinking and bathing alongside the food.
  • Made for feeding wild birds only. Not for human consumption.
<>
Composition & Analysis
  • Composition: dried mealworm.
  • Farmer Scott's publish no typical analysis for this product — no protein, oil, fibre or ash figures appear on their website — so none is stated here.
  • Farmer Scott's own website lists only seed mixes, sunflower hearts and peanuts. Mealworm is not shown there, so the declaration on the bag is the authority.
  • 1kg bag. Barcode 5061043770003.

Care & Caution
  • Soak dried mealworms in water for a few minutes before putting them out during the breeding season. Adults carry them straight to nestlings, and dry larvae are hard for a chick to swallow and carry no moisture.
  • Always keep fresh drinking water within reach of the feeding point.
  • Made for wild birds only. Not for human consumption.
