Henry Bell Fat Balls – Pack of 25
Twenty-five is the pack size that suits one or two feeders in an ordinary garden: enough to keep a fat ball feeder running through a cold spell without committing to a bulk box that will sit half-used in the shed until spring. At Henry Bell's own figure of 80g a ball, that is roughly 2kg of feed.
The recipe is the same across every Henry Bell fat ball pack — cereals, oils and fats, seeds and minerals — and so is the thing that matters most about them: they are supplied without nets. Henry Bell are explicit that all their fat balls are free from the nets that cause harm when feeding.
<>Performance & Benefits
- Twenty-five balls, at Henry Bell's stated 80g each — about 2kg of high-energy feed.
- Supplied free from nets, which Henry Bell single out as a hazard when birds feed.
- Cereals, oils and fats, seeds and minerals: fat for energy, seed and cereal for substance.
- Taken by twelve species on Henry Bell's own list, including long-tailed tits and nuthatches.
- Fits a standard fat ball feeder, or goes straight onto a bird table.
- A sensible size to keep fresh — a pack this big gets used before it turns.
Suitable For
- Great tits, blue tits, coal tits, long-tailed tits, robins, dunnocks and nuthatches among others.
- One or two fat ball feeders in a typical garden.
- Winter cold snaps, and the spring weeks when adults are feeding young.
- Bird tables and ground trays as well as hanging feeders.
- Not enough for a busy multi-feeder station through a whole winter — the Henry Bell Fat Balls 50 tub or the box of 160 suit that better.
Feeding
- Load the balls into a fat ball feeder, or place them on a bird table or feeding tray.
- The Henry Bell Heritage Fat Ball Feeder takes five at a time; the Essential fat ball feeder takes three.
- Keep the pack closed between refills so the remainder stays firm and dry.
- Always provide fresh water for drinking and bathing.
- Feed year-round — Henry Bell describe them as providing energy for garden birds all year.
Composition & Analysis
- Composition: cereals, oils and fats, seeds, minerals.
- Analytical constituents, as published by Henry Bell: crude protein 8.5%, crude fibres 2.5%, crude fat 19.0%, crude ash 8.5%.
- One fat ball weighs 80g on Henry Bell's own feeder capacity figures; Henry Bell publish no net pack weight for the 25 pack.
- Henry Bell product code H020017. Also made as a 6 pack and a 50 tub.
Care & Caution
- Contains nuts and is packed where nuts are present. Not for human consumption.
- Never feed fat balls in plastic netting from any brand — feet and beaks catch in it. Henry Bell's are supplied without nets for that reason.
- Discard any ball that has grown mould or smells rancid rather than putting it out.
- In hot weather fat goes soft and can mat a bird's feathers; put out less at a time and keep the feeder in shade.
