A 16cm aluminium cage that takes exactly one Henry Bell suet cake and nothing else, so there is no wrestling a differently sized block in sideways. It hangs from the same hook as the rest of the Heritage range and carries the same antique gold and bronze finish, which keeps a feeding station looking deliberate rather than assembled by accident.

Suet cake is the highest-energy thing you can hang out, and a flat cage is the sensible way to offer one. Birds cling to the wire and work at the block where it hangs, instead of breaking lumps off and carrying them away. Aluminium matters here more than elsewhere: fat sits directly against the metal, and aluminium does not corrode under it.

How to Use

• Open the lid, unwrap a suet cake, drop it in flat and close the lid.
• Hang from a feeding station arm, bird table hook or branch, ideally out of full afternoon sun.
• Wash the cage in hot water with a bird-safe hygiene spray every time you change the cake — fat residue builds up quickly.
• Dry it fully before the next cake goes in.
• Scrape crumbs out of the base rather than letting them set solid.
