Henry Bell No Grow Mix – 2kg

Two kilos is the bag to buy if you want to test whether a no-grow mix really does solve the problem it claims to. Every ingredient in it — kibbled maize, sunflower chips, cut wheat, pinhead oatmeal, peanut granules — has been processed to the point where it cannot sprout, so nothing seeds itself into the border below a hanging feeder.

It is the same blend Henry Bell sell in 4kg and 12.55kg, so if it works you can scale up without changing what the birds have got used to. At 2kg it lives in a kitchen cupboard rather than needing a bin in the shed, which is often the practical difference.

Performance & Benefits
  • Nothing in the mix will germinate, so no seedlings come up under the feeder.
  • Kibbled maize, sunflower chips, cut wheat, pinhead oatmeal, peanut granules and suet pellets, bound with soya oil.
  • 26.24% crude fat, which is high for a general-purpose mix.
  • Every piece is bite-sized, so small birds are not excluded by a large seed.
  • Works in a tube feeder, on a bird table or scattered on the ground.
  • Same blend as the 4kg bag and the 12.55kg sack.
<>
Suitable For
  • Robins, starlings, blackbirds, nuthatches, chaffinches, blue tits, tree sparrows, greenfinches, coal tits, siskins, great tits, song thrushes and bullfinches.
  • Planted borders, gravel and lawn directly under a hanging feeder.
  • Trying the mix out before committing to a sack.
  • Feeders, tables and ground feeding alike.
  • Not the cheap way to feed a busy garden daily — the 12.55kg sack of the same mix costs far less per kilo.
<>
Feeding
  • Fill a tube feeder, spread on a bird table or scatter on the ground.
  • Feed all year round and keep to a routine once you begin, because birds come to rely on it.
  • Do not top up over old feed. Empty the feeder and refill it.
  • Clean feeders and tables regularly with a bird-safe hygiene spray, and remove any wet feed.
  • Always have fresh water available for drinking and bathing.
