Henry Bell Superior Fat Balls – Tub of 50

Fifty Superior fat balls in a tub: the size to buy if you feed fat all winter and would rather not reorder in February. The tub matters as much as the count — it keeps the balls dry and stops the whole lot softening into one mass in the back of a shed.

Superior is Henry Bell's richer recipe, with nuts and seeds in the mix as well as cereal and fat, declared at 39.5% crude fat against 19.0% in their standard ball. All of them are supplied net-free, so nothing has to be cut off before feeding.

Performance & Benefits
  • Fifty fat balls in a resealable tub, made to Henry Bell's Superior nut and seed recipe.
  • Declared 39.5% crude fat — around twice the fat of Henry Bell's standard fat ball.
  • Net-free throughout, so they go straight into a feeder.
  • Tub keeps the balls dry and holds their shape better than a box in a shed.
  • A whole winter of feeding for one or two fat ball feeders.
<>
Suitable For
  • Robin, long-tailed tit and great tit, which Henry Bell name for this product.
  • Blue tit, coal tit, nuthatch, starling, house sparrow, greenfinch and chaffinch.
  • Gardens running two fat ball feeders, or a feeder plus a bird table.
  • Continuous feeding from autumn through to spring.
  • More than a small garden with one feeder will use before spring — the pack of 6 or the pack of 25 suits a lighter routine.
<>
Feeding
  • Take balls from the tub as needed and reseal it; load a fat ball feeder, bird table or ground tray.
  • Keep the tub somewhere cool and out of the sun so the fat stays firm.
  • Feed all year, with the heaviest demand between November and March.
  • Clean the feeder regularly and keep fresh water available for drinking and bathing.
  • Made for feeding wild birds only. Not for human consumption.
<>
Composition & Analysis
  • Composition as declared by Henry Bell: cereals, nuts, seeds, oils and fats, derivatives of vegetable origin.
  • Crude protein 14.5%. Crude fibres 9.0%. Crude fat 39.5%. Crude ash 2.0%.
  • A crude fibre figure of 36.0% appears on several retail listings for these fat balls. Henry Bell declare 9.0%, and the figures above are Henry Bell's own.
  • Henry Bell's standard fat ball is declared at 19.0% crude fat by comparison, so Superior is roughly twice as rich.
  • Tub of 50. Henry Bell product code H020050. Barcode 5026132031670.

Care & Caution
  • Feed these loose in a fat ball feeder or on a table. Never put fat balls out in plastic nets — nets catch feet and beaks, which is why Henry Bell supply theirs net-free.
  • In warm weather the fat softens, spoils quickly and can smear on plumage. Put out less at a time in summer and clear away anything left.
  • Contains nuts and is packed in an environment where nuts are present. Made for wild birds only, not for human consumption.
