Honeyfield's Urban Garden Nyjer Seed Feeder – Medium
The Urban Garden range is Honeyfield's plain black line, made to disappear against a wall or a fence rather than announce itself. This is the medium nyjer feeder from it, with a quick-release lid for filling and a twist-release base for cleaning.
Medium is the size most small gardens actually want for nyjer. The seed is expensive and slow to go if only a few goldfinches have found you, and a large tube left standing for a month is a tube of stale seed rather than a bargain.
<>Performance & Benefits
- Quick-release lid, so refilling does not involve unscrewing anything.
- Twist-release base, which opens the tube out for a proper wash.
- Ports cut for nyjer seed.
- Black Urban Garden finish, unobtrusive on a fence, wall bracket or balcony.
- Medium capacity — enough for a small flock without leaving seed standing for weeks.
Suitable For
- Goldfinches, siskins and redpolls.
- Small gardens, balconies and courtyards where a large feeder looks out of place.
- Gardens new to nyjer, where a smaller tube keeps the seed fresh while the birds find it.
- Keepers who want the feeder to be as invisible as possible.
- Nyjer only. For sunflower hearts or a mixed seed, use a seed feeder with wider ports.
How to Use
- Lift the quick-release lid and fill with nyjer seed.
- Twist the base off to empty the last of the seed out before refilling.
- Wash fortnightly in hot water with washing-up liquid or a feeder cleaner, and dry fully before refilling.
- Hang it from a bracket, a branch or a feeding station, within reach of cover.
- Sweep or rake up spilled seed underneath. Nyjer husks build up quickly and attract vermin.
Specification
- Part of the Honeyfield's Urban Garden range, finished in black.
- Quick-release lid and twist-release base.
- Medium size in the range.
- Honeyfield's product pages are unavailable at the time of writing and they publish no dimensions or capacity we could verify, so none are stated here.
Care & Caution
- Nyjer that gets damp clumps and moulds. Empty the tube rather than topping up over old seed.
- Feeders are where garden birds meet, and trichomonosis and salmonella travel with them. Clean fortnightly and take the feeder down if you see an unwell bird.
