Horslyx Garlic Balancer – 5kg Tub

Five kilos of Garlic Balancer runs about twenty days for one 500kg horse, which lines up neatly with a fly season worked in three-week blocks. It is the stable and small-paddock size — one horse, one tub, replaced when it is gone.

Garlic sits apart from the rest of the range on the label as well as the smell. Sugar is 30% rather than 33%, ash is 25% and sodium 3.5%, and salt comes second in the declared composition rather than fourth. Pure garlic oil closes the list, included by Horslyx as a natural way to help deter biting insects.

Performance & Benefits
  • Pure garlic oil in the declared composition, for help against midges, flies and their irritation.
  • Sugar at 30% — lower than every other Horslyx Balancer.
  • Sodium 3.5% and ash 25%, both above the Original lick.
  • Vitamin A 25,000iu, D3 5,000iu, E 1,200mg, B12 220mcg and biotin 12mg per kg.
  • Copper and zinc part-supplied as glycine chelates.
  • Weatherproof, which matters for a lick used mostly outdoors in summer.
  • About twenty days for one 500kg horse.
<>
Suitable For
  • Horses turned out through midge and horsefly season.
  • One horse or pony, stabled or in a small paddock.
  • Owners looking for the lowest-sugar option in the Horslyx range.
  • Older equines with poor dentition on forage diets.
  • It does nothing for stiff joints — Horslyx Mobility Balancer Tub 5kg carries the glucosamine and MSM.
<>
Feeding
  • Horslyx give an expected intake of 250g a day for a 500kg horse, 200g for a 300kg pony and 300g for a 700kg horse.
  • A 5kg tub is roughly twenty days for one 500kg horse.
  • Start it before the flies arrive rather than after; introduce slowly and watch the rate.
  • The 5kg Horslyx Holder keeps the tub clean in a field and takes a restrictor grill.
  • Feed alongside forage and fresh water.

Composition & Analysis
  • Composition: dehydrated cane molasses, sodium chloride, monocalcium phosphate, pure vegetable oil, calcium carbonate, prairie meal, magnesium oxide, pure garlic oil.
  • Analytical constituents: crude oil and fats 6%, crude protein 6%, crude fibre 0.25%, crude ash 25%, sugar (as sucrose) 30%, calcium 2.3%, phosphorus 1.6%, magnesium 0.4%, sodium 3.5%.
  • Additives per kg: vitamin A 25,000iu, vitamin D3 5,000iu, vitamin E 1,200mg, vitamin B12 220mcg, biotin 12mg.
  • Trace elements per kg: copper 540mg from copper (II) sulphate plus 60mg as copper chelate of glycine, zinc 1,080mg from zinc sulphate plus 120mg as zinc chelate of glycine, manganese 800mg, iodine 6mg, selenium 5mg.
  • Horslyx publish no inclusion level for the pure garlic oil, and no figure for how much insect deterrence to expect, so neither is stated here.
  • Horslyx describe the whole Balancer range as extremely low in starch but publish no starch percentage, so none is stated here.
<>
Care & Caution
  • Horslyx state that their Balancers are suitable for horses and ponies susceptible to or suffering from laminitis, introduced gradually with no more than ten minutes' access at first.
  • If the forage ration is being restricted, Horslyx say not to allow free access to the lick — a hungry horse is more likely to over-consume it.
  • Sodium is 3.5% here against 2.5% in the Original — make sure fresh water is always within reach.
