Hy Sport Active Dandy Brush – Alpine Green, 20.5 x 6.2cm

This is the large dandy brush from Hy's Sport Active grooming range: 20.5 x 6.2cm of stiff polypropylene bristle set in a two-tone body with a soft-touch back. Hy's own description of it runs to a single line — two tone, soft touch large dandy brush with stiff bristles — and there is honestly not much more to add, because a dandy brush either has the bristle length and stiffness to shift dried mud or it does not.

At 20.5cm long it covers ground quickly on a big body, which is the main argument for a large dandy over a small one when a horse comes in caked to the hocks. The soft-touch finish is the part you notice day to day: hard plastic gets slippery in cold wet hands and this does not. Alpine Green is one of ten colours Hy make the Sport Active range in.

Performance & Benefits
  • Stiff polypropylene bristles, which is what lifts dried mud and loose hair rather than pushing it about.
  • 20.5 x 6.2cm, so it covers a large area per stroke and a muddy horse takes less time.
  • Soft-touch two-tone body, easier to hold in cold, wet hands than plain hard plastic.
  • Synthetic bristle, so it washes and dries without going soft or splaying.
  • One of ten colours in the Sport Active range, which makes kit easy to tell apart on a shared yard.
  • Matching body brush, face brush, hoof brush and grooming bag are made in the same range and the same colour.
<>
Suitable For
  • Everyday grooming of horses and ponies with normal, unclipped coats.
  • Getting dried mud off the body and quarters after turnout.
  • Lifting dead hair through a spring moult.
  • Shared yards where colour-coding each horse's kit saves a good deal of argument.
  • Too stiff for the face, the mane and tail, or a clipped or thin-skinned horse — the Hy Sport Active Soft Touch Body Brush in the same Alpine Green is the brush for those.
<>
How to Use
  • Work in short flicking strokes with the lie of the coat, lifting the brush away at the end of each stroke rather than dragging it.
  • Start at the neck and work back and down. Leave the legs until last, and go gently over bony areas.
  • Keep it to the body and quarters. Use a body brush on the face and a comb on mane and tail.
  • Knock it out against a wall or a tyre as you go, instead of grinding the same dirt back into the coat.
  • Wash in warm water with a little mild detergent, rinse, and stand it bristles-down to dry.
