Julius-K9 IDC Powerharness – Black, Size Baby 2
Baby 2 is the second-smallest IDC, cut for a chest of 33–45cm and a dog of roughly 2–5kg. That is a Chihuahua, a small Yorkshire terrier, a toy poodle, or a puppy of a bigger breed in its first weeks at home.
The construction Julius-K9 use for the small sizes is not simply a scaled-down version of the big ones — the saddle and chest strap are shaped differently, because a 3kg dog needs the lead's pull spread over a much shorter back. In black, which is the colour that shows least of a muddy field.
<>Performance & Benefits
- OEKO-TEX certified, antiallergenic lining against the dog's coat.
- Saddle section takes the pull of the lead across the back rather than into the spine.
- Chest strap is set at a deliberate angle so the shoulders stay free to swing.
- High-visibility reflective stitching worked into the edging and chest strap.
- Interchangeable hook-and-loop patches on both sides, readable from above and from the side.
- Made in the EU from German textiles, on ISO 9001 certified production.
- Chest strap adjusts on hook-and-loop through the full 33–45cm range, which covers a lot of growing.
Suitable For
- Dogs with a chest of 33–45cm, around 2–5kg, measured behind the front legs.
- Toy and small breeds — Chihuahuas, Yorkshire terriers, toy poodles, papillons.
- Puppies of larger breeds during their first few weeks, before they outgrow it.
- Owners who want the lead off the neck entirely on a very small dog.
- Too small for anything above about 5kg — a 7–15kg dog needs the IDC in Mini, and 14–25kg takes Size 0.
How to Use
- Measure the chest all the way round, about four fingers behind the front legs, and choose on that measurement — Julius-K9 give weight only as a guide.
- Undo the chest strap, place the saddle over the back, pass the strap under the chest and press the hook-and-loop closed.
- Set it so a flat hand slides under the strap but the harness does not rotate when you pull the lead.
- Recheck the fit weekly on a growing puppy; a Baby 2 is outgrown quickly.
- Clip the lead to the ring on the saddle, not to the patch fixings.
Specification
- Size Baby 2: chest 33–45cm, dog weight 2–5kg — Julius-K9's own chart.
- Colour black. Hook-and-loop chest strap adjustment.
- OEKO-TEX certified antiallergenic lining, German textiles, EU production.
- Julius-K9 describe the handle fixing for Mini-Mini, Mini and sizes 0 to 4 but publish no handle specification for the Baby sizes, so none is claimed here.
- Julius-K9 state that metal components are being phased out in favour of a strong plastic, so the lead ring may be either depending on production date.
Care & Caution
- A harness on a 2–5kg dog goes from correct to too tight in days while it is growing. Check the chest strap every week and loosen as needed.
- Take the harness off indoors and in a crate. Hook-and-loop and patch edges catch on bedding, wire and furniture.
- Julius-K9 make no crash-test claim for the IDC Powerharness, so do not use it as a car restraint. Use a restraint sold and tested for that job.
- A harness a dog can back out of is worse than a collar. If the chest strap slips loose, refit before you walk out of the door.
