Hot green makes this 2 metre superfine cotton rope easy to pick out on a rail of otherwise identical leads, which is the practical argument for a loud colour on a shared yard. Underneath it is KM Elite's simplest lead rope: fine cotton braid, 2 metres, soft in the hand from new.

At 2 metres it is a leading and tying-up rope rather than something to work a horse on. The fine braid coils down small enough to push into a jacket pocket, and cotton washes clean in a bucket — which a green rope will need rather more often than a navy one.

How to Use

• Clip to the back ring of the headcollar, beneath the jaw.
• Lead from the near side, hand about 30cm below the clip, with the slack folded flat in your other hand rather than looped.
• Wash in warm water with a mild detergent and hang to dry fully.
• Store hanging rather than in a heap, so the braid dries out and keeps its shape.

Care & Caution

• Never wrap the rope around your hand, wrist or waist — cotton burns badly if a horse pulls away against it.
