The X-Large stands 12.7cm tall on a 8.9cm base and weighs 340g, which is nearly twice the Large. KONG put it with dogs of about 60–90 lb — roughly 27–41kg — so german shepherds, rottweilers, mastiff crosses and the heavier retrievers.

At this size the hollow will take a substantial part of a big dog's daily ration, and the wall thickness is what stops a powerful jaw folding it. Above 85 lb KONG go one further to the XXLarge, so this is the second-largest of the five Extreme sizes rather than the top of the range.

How to Use

• Fill the chamber with kibble and cap it with paste so the dog has to work at it.
• Freeze for four hours or longer for a really durable job.
• Use it as a food bowl replacement for a large dog that bolts its meals.
• Wash in hot soapy water or on the dishwasher's top rack, then dry.
• Throw it low along the ground; a 340g rubber toy is heavy enough to hurt if it hits.
