Likit Refill – Mint, 650g
Mint is the quietest of the Likit flavours and the one to reach for with a horse that is inclined to get frantic about food. It is less sweet-smelling than cherry or molasses, which tends to produce steady licking rather than the frenzy some horses work themselves into over a strongly scented block.
It is a standard 650g refill, so it fits the Likit Holder and the top section of the Boredom Breaker. Likit's limit is half a block — 300g — per horse per day, which puts a single refill at roughly two days.
<>Performance & Benefits
- Mint flavour, milder in scent than the fruit and molasses blocks.
- 650g on the standard Likit fitting for the Likit Holder and Boredom Breaker.
- Tends to produce calm, sustained licking rather than gulping.
- Keeps a stabled horse occupied through the long hours in.
- Useful during box rest, when boredom does most of the damage.
- One of Likit's seven core flavours and consistently stocked.
Suitable For
- Horses that get over-excited about sweeter, stronger-smelling licks.
- Stabled horses and ponies of all ages.
- Owners of a Likit Holder or Boredom Breaker.
- Box rest, travelling and nights away.
- Not one for a laminitic, insulin-resistant or Cushing's horse — the Rockies Baby Pure Salt Lick is the sugar-free lick we stock for stable enrichment.
Feeding
- Press the lick into a Likit Holder, or into the top section of a Boredom Breaker, before offering it. It is not a hand-fed treat.
- The 650g Likit does not fit the Tongue Twister or the Boredom Buster — both of those take 250g Little Likits.
- Likit cap intake at half a Likit, about 300g, per horse per day. A 650g lick is therefore roughly two days' allowance.
- Hang the holder freely at about wither height and clear of the walls, so the horse licks rather than pins and bites it.
- A complementary treat, fed alongside normal forage and hard feed. Clean fresh water at all times.
Composition & Analysis
- Composition, as declared by Likit: glucose, dextrose monohydrate, natural colours, natural and artificial flavourings, and potassium sorbate as a preservative.
- Likit describe the lick as glucose based — in their words, a simple form of sugar much like that found in grass.
- Likit publish no analytical constituents for the flavoured Likit range: no protein, oil, fibre, ash, sugar or starch percentage is given, so none is stated here.
- Figures such as 0.4% ash and 20% moisture appear on some retail listings. Likit publish none, so we do not repeat them.
- Net weight 650g.
Care & Caution
- This is a sugar lick. It is not suitable for laminitic, insulin-resistant or Cushing's (PPID) horses, or any horse on a restricted-sugar diet.
- Likit publish no sugar percentage for the flavoured range, so the sugar load cannot be quantified. Treat it as a sweet treat, not as a neutral boredom aid.
- Stay within Likit's own limit of half a Likit, 300g, a day. Good-doers and native ponies put on weight on licks quickly.
- Check the holder or toy and its rope each time you refill, and take it down if your horse bites lumps off the lick rather than licking it.
