Mollichaff HoofKind Complete – 15kg
HoofKind is Mollichaff's dedicated laminitis feed and the one to reach for when a vet has put a pony on a low-starch diet. It is cereal free, built on straw, alfalfa and fibre pellets, and declares 2.7% starch with sugar at 6–8% — low enough to feed to a metabolic horse, and fortified enough to be fed as the only concentrate in the bucket.
The hoof part of the name is a 15mg biotin inclusion at the recommended daily rate for an average 500kg horse, which is a meaningful level rather than a token one. Added magnesium supports metabolic function, and at 28% fibre and 9 MJ/kg it puts a proper amount of chew into a restricted ration.
<>Performance & Benefits
- Cereal free, with starch declared at just 2.7% and sugar at 6–8%.
- 15mg of biotin at the recommended daily rate for an average 500kg horse, at a level that supports hoof horn quality.
- 28% crude fibre, the highest of the three Mollichaff Complete feeds.
- Added magnesium, included by Mollichaff for metabolic support.
- Broad-spectrum vitamin and mineral supplement, so it can be fed as the sole concentrate alongside forage.
- Natural plant-based antioxidants for immune, respiratory and hoof support.
Suitable For
- Horses and ponies prone to laminitis, on a low-starch veterinary diet.
- Good doers needing controlled calories without giving up bucket feed.
- Fizzy or excitable types where cereal starch is the problem.
- Horses needing hoof horn support, fed at the recommended rate over several months.
- Not a conditioning feed for a poor doer that needs weight on — Mollichaff Condition Complete at 10.5 MJ/kg is the right bag there.
Feeding
- Feed daily by bodyweight alongside good-quality forage: 1kg for a 200kg pony, 1.5kg at 300kg, 2kg at 400kg, 2.25kg at 450kg, 2.5kg at 500kg and 3kg at 600kg.
- That works out at roughly 0.5kg per 100kg of bodyweight — 2.5kg a day for a typical 500kg horse.
- One level Stubbs scoop (2.6 litres) of HoofKind weighs approximately 0.45kg, so a 500kg horse takes about five and a half level scoops daily.
- Split the daily amount across at least two feeds and feed dry or damped, as your horse prefers.
- Fed at these rates with good-quality forage it needs no further supplementation. Introduce gradually over 7–10 days.
Composition & Analysis
- Composition: straw, alfalfa, fibre pellets, molasses, soya oil, broad spectrum vitamin and mineral supplement, limestone.
- Typical analysis: energy 9 MJ/kg. Protein 5.5–6.5%. Fibre 28%. Oil 7.5%. Starch 2.7%. Sugar 6–8%.
- Biotin: 15mg per recommended daily serving for an average 500kg horse.
- Bag size 15kg.
- HoofKind does contain a molasses inclusion; the declared sugar of 6–8% is nonetheless among the lowest in the range, and Mollichaff formulate and sell it specifically for laminitis-prone horses.
- Mollichaff publish no ash, calcium or sodium figure and no individual vitamin or trace element levels for HoofKind, so none is stated here.
