Nettex Anti-Feather Pecking Spray – 250ml
Once pecking starts in a flock it tends to spread, because the sight of a bare patch or a spot of blood draws more birds to the same spot. Nettex's spray works on both halves of that problem: a strong smell and foul taste that put birds off the pecked area, and antibacterial agents that help clean the grazed skin underneath.
It is a deterrent and a skin cleanser, not a cure for pecking. The cause is usually somewhere else — crowding, boredom, mites, a diet or a light level — and the spray buys time to find it rather than replacing that job.
<>Performance & Benefits
- Strong odour and foul taste discourage biting, plucking and cannibalism, in Nettex's own words.
- Contains antibacterial agents to help cleanse minor skin wounds and abrasions and support healing.
- Applied in a three to four second burst around the pecked area, so a bottle goes a long way.
- Useful for poultry and game birds where pecking has already started in the group.
- 250ml trigger bottle — the only size Nettex list for this product.
Suitable For
- Poultry and game birds showing feather pecking or cannibalism.
- Small flocks where a single bird is being singled out.
- Use alongside fixing the underlying cause — space, enrichment, mites, diet or lighting.
- Not a wound dressing for a deep or open injury; Nettex Poultry Wound Spray is the product for cleaning and colouring a wound.
How to Use
- Shake well before use.
- Spray for approximately three to four seconds around the pecked area.
- Repeat every three to five days until pecking has stopped.
- Check the bird daily, and separate it if the pecking continues despite treatment.
Specification
- 250ml bottle. Barcode 5035104044778.
- Nettex describe it as a deterrent spray containing antibacterial agents; they publish no ingredient list or percentage strength, so none is given here.
- For external use on the bird only.
- Nettex list this product in 250ml only.
Care & Caution
- Nettex state that disposable gloves must be worn when applying this spray.
- Keep it out of the bird's eyes, and away from feed and drinking water.
- Nettex publish no egg withdrawal period for this product. If that matters to you, ask them before treating birds whose eggs you eat or sell.
- External use only. Persistent pecking that does not settle is a flock management problem and worth a vet's opinion.
