Nettex Feather Fite Powder – 300g

Feather Fite is diatomaceous earth — the silica shells of fossilised diatoms, ground to a fine powder — puffed up into the feather and worked down to the skin. It has no active chemistry at all. It works by drying, because a feather that stays damp under a mat of hair is exactly the environment mites and crawling insects want, and a dry one is not.

That makes it a maintenance product rather than a treatment. It goes on as often as needed through a wet winter, and because it is inert there is nothing to build up or withdraw. Nettex get the best out of it by washing the feather first with their Equine Veterinary Surgical Scrub, so the powder meets clean skin rather than sitting on top of mud.

How to Use

• Stroke the feather upwards against the lie of the hair and apply the powder into it.
• Work it gently down to the base of the feather with a soft brush.
• Wash the feather first with Nettex Equine Veterinary Surgical Scrub for the best result.
• Clip very heavily feathered legs if the powder cannot reach the skin.
• Reapply as often as conditions require.

Care & Caution

• This is a very fine mineral dust. Avoid raising a cloud, and do not breathe it in — apply low down, out of the wind, and turn your face away.

• A dust mask is sensible if you are doing four legs on a big cob, and gloves keep it off dry hands.
• Do not apply to open, weeping or broken skin.
