Stable stains are the yellow-brown patches a horse presses into its own coat lying down in bedding, and grass stains are the green ones that come off a field. Both sit in the hair rather than on it, which is why ordinary shampoo skates over them. This is a spot treatment: you put it on the dry mark, leave it to work, then rinse, and the stain lifts rather than being scrubbed at.

Nettex also make the point that it seals the hair as it goes, so repeat marks are slower to take hold. Used regularly alongside their Whitening Shampoo it keeps stains from becoming in-ground in the first place. Horse and Hound scored it 8 out of 10 in February 2019. How to Use

• Shake well before use.
• Brush loose dust and dirt out of the coat first.
• Spray directly onto the dry stain and massage it in with a soft brush or a shower puff.
• Leave for 5–10 minutes depending on how deep the stain is.
• Rinse off with warm or cold water.
• Follow with a suitable shampoo for the best finish.

Care & Caution

• This is an alkali-based detergent. Keep it out of eyes, and rinse thoroughly if it gets there.
• Do not use on broken skin, open wounds, sores or scabbed areas.
• Do not leave it on longer than ten minutes, and always rinse it off — it is not a leave-in product.
• Wear gloves if you are treating several patches, and keep it away from the eyes and muzzle.
