The test of a detangler is what the tail looks like two days later. A cheap one leaves a tacky film that grabs dust and shavings, so the tail is worse by Wednesday than it was on Monday. Omega build this on a silicone and siloxane base, which lays the hair down and lets the comb run through without leaving anything sticky behind.

It goes on as a spray, dries quickly and Omega say it stays effective for days. In practice that means one application before a show does the job for the whole weekend, and on the yard it turns the daily fight with a thick tail into a two-minute task. How to Use

• Spray onto the mane or tail from a short distance, working through the length rather than soaking the roots.
• Leave it a moment to dry, then comb or brush through from the bottom upwards.
• One application before a show generally carries through the weekend.
• Rinse the applicator nozzle occasionally and keep the cap on between uses.

Care & Caution

• Keep it off the saddle patch, the girth area and anywhere the rider’s leg sits. A silicone finish is slippery and a slipping saddle is dangerous.
• Do not spray it onto the back or loins before riding for the same reason, and keep it off the reins and your hands before you get on.
• Spray away from the horse’s face and keep it out of eyes, yours and the horse’s.
• Do not use on broken or sore skin, and stop if any irritation appears.
