Omega Equine Ultra Oil – 1 Litre

Ultra Oil is a blend rather than a single oil, and the blending is the point. Omega publish the fatty acid figures: 461g of linolenic acid per litre for omega 3, 142g of linoleic for omega 6 and 181g of oleic for omega 9 — a little over three parts omega 3 to one part omega 6, which is the ratio a forage diet is closest to.

Sea buckthorn is the unusual inclusion, and the reason omega 7 appears in the description at all; flaxseed, coconut and avocado oils make up the rest, with vitamin E and rosemary extract as natural antioxidants. At the maintenance rate of 30–60ml a day the 1 litre bottle runs for roughly 17 to 33 days.

Performance & Benefits
  • Omega 3 at 461g per litre, omega 6 at 142g and omega 9 at 181g — Omega's own published figures.
  • A little over 3:1 omega 3 to omega 6, close to the ratio of a grass diet.
  • Sea buckthorn oil included, the source of the omega 7 Omega describe.
  • Vitamin E and rosemary extract as natural antioxidants.
  • Supports condition, coat shine, skin and sustained energy.
  • Liquid, so it can be poured over a feed with no mixing needed.
<>
Suitable For
  • Performance and competition horses.
  • Horses needing condition and coat shine.
  • Horses on a low-starch diet needing calories from oil instead.
  • Trying the product before committing — Omega also make 5 litre and 25 litre sizes.
  • Not a vitamin and mineral supplement — a horse on forage alone still needs a balancer such as Baileys No.14 Lo-Cal Balancer alongside it.

Feeding
  • Maintenance: 30–60ml a day. Stress or elevated workload: 80–160ml a day.
  • At 30ml a day the 1 litre bottle lasts about 33 days; at 60ml about 17 days. At the 160ml stress rate it lasts about 6 days, so the 5 litre size suits sustained high feeding.
  • Build up over ten to fourteen days — dietary oil raised quickly loosens droppings.
  • Pour over the feed and mix through.
  • Clean, fresh water at all times.

Composition & Analysis
  • Composition: flaxseed oil, coconut oil, avocado oil and sea buckthorn oil, with vitamin E and rosemary extract.
  • Typical analysis: linolenic acid (omega 3) 461g/l, linoleic acid (omega 6) 142g/l, oleic acid (omega 9) 181g/l.
  • Omega describe omega 7 as present but publish no figure for it, so none is given here.
  • 1 litre bottle. Omega also list 5 litre and 25 litre sizes.
  • Omega's own page describes Ultra Oil as a blend of five nutritious oils while naming four in the composition. Descriptions elsewhere say six. Four are named above because those are the four Omega list.
