Pedigree Dentastix Daily Dental Chews – Small Dog, 35 Sticks
Dentastix are the X-shaped chew Pedigree developed with vets at the Waltham Petcare Science Institute, and the small-dog version is sized for dogs of 5–10kg. The shape is the point: the arms of the X reach the back teeth and the gum line, which is where tartar actually accumulates and where a hard biscuit does nothing.
Pedigree's claim is specific and clinically backed — up to 80% less tartar build-up when one stick is fed daily — and the range carries accreditation from the Veterinary Oral Health Council. The 35-stick bag is the five-week size, which is the sensible way to buy something that only works if it is fed every day.
<>Performance & Benefits
- Clinically proven by Pedigree to reduce tartar build-up by up to 80% when fed daily.
- X-shaped with a chewy texture, so the stick works into the gum line rather than snapping.
- Sodium tripolyphosphate at 2.55% — the active that binds calcium in saliva and slows tartar forming.
- Developed with veterinary surgeons at the Waltham Petcare Science Institute and externally accredited by the Veterinary Oral Health Council.
- A far safer chew for teeth than a hard bone, which fractures carnassials.
- No added sugar; natural chicken and beef flavour in the light and dark sticks.
Suitable For
- Adult small dogs of 5–10kg — Pedigree's own weight banding for this size.
- Daily dental care between professional scale-and-polish appointments.
- Dogs that will not tolerate having their teeth brushed.
- Households wanting a five-week supply rather than a 7-stick bag.
- Not the right stick for a dog over 10kg — Pedigree make a Medium version for 10–25kg dogs and a Large version above that; a small stick given to a big dog is swallowed rather than chewed.
Feeding
- One stick a day for a dog of 5–10kg. More than one a day does not clean better.
- Reduce the main meal to account for the stick.
- Keep fresh drinking water available at all times.
- Feed it at the same time each day; the tartar claim depends on daily use.
Composition & Analysis
- Composition: cereals, derivatives of vegetable origin, minerals (including sodium tripolyphosphate 2.55%), meat and animal derivatives (dried chicken liver 2.16%, equivalent to 4.2% chicken; dried beef liver 2.42%, equivalent to 4.2% beef), oils and fats.
- Analytical constituents per 100g: protein 7.5%, fat 1.3%, inorganic matter 5%, crude fibre 0.2%, moisture 17%.
- Energy 300 kcal per 100g.
- Additives per kg: vitamin E 65mg, zinc sulphate heptahydrate 220mg, chicken flavour 19.3mg, beef flavour 5.9mg.
- 35 sticks. Pedigree list the small Dentastix bag sizes as 550g, 1.1kg and 1.65kg for 35, 70 and 105 sticks.
Care & Caution
- Adult dogs only. This is not a puppy chew.
- Feed one stick a day and count it against the daily ration — thirty-five of these are a meaningful number of calories over five weeks.
- Supervise your dog while it chews, as with any chew, and take the last piece away if it is being gulped rather than worked at.
- Dental chews slow tartar; they do not treat existing gum disease. A dog with red gums, bad breath or a loose tooth needs a vet.
