Gut Balancer is the everyday one in Protexin's Equine Premium range — a dandelion-flavoured powder of live yeast and two prebiotics, measured out at 10g a day into the feed. It is aimed at keeping the hindgut steady rather than at fixing anything that has already gone wrong, which is why it is fed continuously.

The probiotic is Saccharomyces cerevisiae at 1 x 10¹² CFU per kilogram, carried on alfalfa meal and brewers' yeast, with Preplex prebiotic supplying both fructo-oligosaccharide and acacia gum arabic. At the normal rate a 700g tub runs to about seventy days; through a stressful spell at the doubled rate, about thirty-five.
