Simple System Lucie Brix – Single 1kg Block
This is one Lucie Brix block: a kilogram of dried lucerne compressed hard enough that a horse has to work at it. Buying a single block is the sensible way to find out whether your horse takes to them before committing to a 20kg sack, and it is the right unit for the lorry, a box-rest week or a one-off treat.
Simple System's analysis runs 14–18% crude protein and 25–35% crude fibre, with sugar under 7%, starch under 5% and digestible energy of 9–10 MJ/kg. The only ingredient is dried lucerne — no binder, no molasses, no added vitamins, because at 100% forage there is nothing else in it.
<>Performance & Benefits
- 100% dried lucerne compressed into a single 1kg block. Nothing added.
- Fed whole and dry, so the horse eats head-down and slowly, much as it would at grass.
- Digestible energy 9–10 MJ/kg, which Simple System class as medium.
- Sugar under 7% and starch under 5%.
- Crude protein 14–18% and calcium 1.59% — the lucerne signature.
- One block is exactly the daily Brix allowance for a 100kg pony, so portioning needs no scales.
Suitable For
- Trying Brix before committing to a 20kg sack.
- Box rest, travelling and competition days, where a horse needs occupying.
- Horses with stereotypies, or simply bored in the stable.
- Ponies of around 100kg, for whom one block is a full day's allowance.
- Not for an elderly or dentally challenged horse — Simple System say good teeth are needed, and a soaked feed such as HayCare suits those better.
Feeding
- Feed whole and dry at ground level: on the stable floor, in a bucket, or out in the field.
- Up to 1 block per 100kg bodyweight daily, so up to 5 blocks for a 500kg horse.
- Feed to requirement and condition.
- Simple System also sell Lucie Brix in 20kg sacks and in full pallets of 49 x 20kg.
Composition & Analysis
- Composition: dried lucerne, and nothing else.
- Crude protein 14–18%, crude fibre 25–35%, crude fat 2–4%, crude ash 6–8%. Sugar under 7%, starch under 5%.
- Digestible energy 9–10 MJ/kg.
- Major minerals: calcium 1.59%, phosphorus 0.29%, potassium 2.17%, magnesium 0.17%, chloride 0.39%, sulphur 0.19%, sodium 0.06%.
- Trace minerals: iron 332mg/kg, zinc 21mg/kg, manganese 17mg/kg, copper 7.8mg/kg, selenium 0.35mg/kg.
Care & Caution
- Brix need good teeth. Simple System do not recommend them for elderly or dentally challenged horses.
- Lucerne is high in calcium and in protein. On a ration already rich in both, count the Brix into the day's feed rather than adding them on top.
