Lucie Chop is the everyday middle rung of Simple System's lucerne chops: Organic Lucie Stalks sit below it as the low-calorie option and Build & Shine above it as the richest. This is pure dried lucerne, chopped and bagged, with nothing else declared on the label — the product Simple System previously sold as GreenGold, under a new name.

Because it is chopped rather than pelleted it takes proper chewing, and that is the point of it. Chewing makes saliva, saliva buffers stomach acid, and a horse eating slowly is a horse less likely to bolt a feed. The declared analysis runs 15–20% crude protein with sugar under 7% and starch under 5%, so it bulks out a small hard feed without adding cereal energy.

Feeding

• Introduce gradually over a week, as with any new feed.
• Simple System specify that Lucie Chop is fed dampened.
• Feed up to 1kg per 100kg bodyweight daily, dry weight — up to 5kg a day for a 500kg horse.
