Skinner's Field & Trial Grain Free Chicken & Sweet Potato – 2.5kg

Where the rest of the Field & Trial dry range drops wheat, this recipe drops grain altogether. Sweet potato chips at 25% and potato flake carry the carbohydrate, with poultry meat meal — declared as a minimum 95% chicken — at 30%.

The 2.5kg bag is the size to try a grain-free diet on one dog before committing to a sack, and the right size for a small dog that would take months to get through 15kg.

Performance & Benefits
  • Poultry meat meal at 30%, which Skinner's declare as a minimum 95% chicken.
  • No grain of any kind: sweet potato chips 25% and potato flake in place of cereal.
  • Crude protein 25% and crude fat 13%, at 355 kcal per 100g.
  • Omega-3 at 1.58% — the highest of the Field & Trial dry foods — largely from whole linseed.
  • Peas, beet pulp and brewer's yeast for fibre and palatability.
  • 2.5kg bag keeps the food fresh for a single dog or a trial run.
<>
Suitable For
  • Active and working dogs on a moderate protein and fat requirement.
  • Dogs with sensitivities to wheat, maize, barley, oats or grain as a class.
  • Owners moving a dog off a wheat-free food that has not settled it.
  • Single-dog households, where a 15kg sack would go stale before it was finished.
  • A dog whose problem is one particular cereal rather than grain generally may do just as well on Skinner's Field & Trial Turkey & Rice, which is rice based.
<>
Feeding
  • Feed dry, or moisten a few minutes before serving with a little tepid water.
  • Skinner's publish their daily amounts on the pack and through an interactive feeding guide on their own website rather than as a printed table, so none are quoted here.
  • Adjust the amount to the dog's weight, condition and activity level.
  • Introduce gradually over about a week — grain-free foods are often more energy dense than what a dog is coming off.
  • Fresh drinking water available at all times.
  • Sold VAT free under the working dog food classification — a tax treatment, not a statement about the recipe or about which dogs it suits.
