Skinner's Field & Trial Junior – 15kg

Junior covers the awkward stretch from about six months to about eighteen, when a dog has stopped being a puppy but has not finished growing. Skinner's put poultry meat meal first at 32.5% — the largest meat inclusion in the Field & Trial dry range — and follow it with maize, wheat and brown rice.

It runs at 27% protein and 16% fat, 384 kcal per 100g, which is a good deal richer than any adult recipe and is meant to be. A 15kg bag lasts a growing large-breed dog a sensible length of time without going stale.

Performance & Benefits
  • Poultry meat meal at 32.5%, a minimum 95% of it chicken.
  • 27% crude protein and 16% crude fat, at 384 kcal per 100g, for continued growth and early work.
  • MOS at 2,500mg/kg and FOS at 1,000mg/kg — five times the prebiotic level of the adult recipes.
  • Glucosamine 250mg/kg and chondroitin sulphate 150mg/kg while the joints are still forming.
  • Marine algae meal and whole linseed supply omega-3 at 0.94%.
  • Herb blend at 750mg/kg.
<>
Suitable For
  • Dogs from around six months to around eighteen months, depending on breed and type.
  • Young gundogs starting their first season's training.
  • Larger breeds that stay in growth longer than a terrier does.
  • Households with more than one young dog, where 15kg is used before it ages.
  • Not part of Skinner's sensitive range — maize and wheat are both in it. A young dog with a cereal sensitivity wants Field & Trial Puppy Lamb & Rice, which covers the same age span.
<>
Feeding
  • Feed dry or moistened with tepid water, according to preference.
  • Skinner's publish their daily amounts as a bodyweight chart rather than a single figure, so work from the guide printed on the bag and adjust to condition.
  • Two meals a day suits most dogs of this age better than one large one.
  • Move on to an adult recipe at around eighteen months, matching the new food to the work the dog is doing.
  • Change over gradually, mixing an increasing share of the new food with the old across several days.
  • Fresh drinking water at all times.
