Skinner's Field & Trial Light & Senior – 15kg
At 8% fat this is the leanest food Skinner's make in the Field & Trial dry range, and 347 kcal per 100g means a dog can be given a filling bowl without the calories that come with it. Protein sits at 18%, with poultry meat meal and white fish meal both contributing.
The joint and heart package is what separates it from a plain light food: glucosamine at 350mg/kg, chondroitin sulphate at 150mg/kg, MSM at 50mg/kg, taurine at 500mg/kg and carnitine at 100mg/kg. Those are the additions that matter in an older dog rather than a merely idle one.
<>Performance & Benefits
- 8% crude fat — the lowest in the range — at 347 kcal per 100g.
- 18% crude protein from poultry meat meal, white fish meal and dried egg.
- Glucosamine 350mg/kg with chondroitin sulphate 150mg/kg and MSM 50mg/kg for stiffening joints.
- Taurine at 500mg/kg and carnitine at 100mg/kg, well above the level in the working recipes.
- Naked oats and beet pulp give bulk and slow-release energy without fat.
- A wheat gluten-free formulation.
Suitable For
- Older dogs that have slowed down but still want a full bowl.
- Dogs prone to weight gain, or being brought back down to condition.
- Retired working dogs out of the shooting season for good.
- Dogs needing joint support alongside calorie control.
- Not enough energy for a dog in regular work — Field & Trial Maintenance Plus carries the same Joint Aid thinking at a higher fat level, and Working 26 suits a dog still doing full days.
Feeding
- Feed dry or moistened with a little tepid water.
- Skinner's publish their daily amounts as a bodyweight chart rather than a single figure, so work from the guide printed on the bag and adjust to condition.
- Weigh the ration on a kitchen scale while a dog is losing weight; a scoop is a poor measure of a low-density food.
- Reassess every fortnight by body condition rather than by the number on the bag.
- Change over gradually, mixing an increasing share of the new food with the old across several days.
- Fresh drinking water at all times.
