Maintenance Plus is Maintenance with Joint Aid for Dogs built into it, and it is one of only two Field & Trial foods Skinner's make that way — the other being Turkey & Rice. Everything else about the composition is unchanged: maize, wheat, poultry meat meal and barley, at 18% protein and 11% fat.

The logic is that the dogs most likely to be on a maintenance ration are the older ones and the heavier ones, and those are exactly the dogs whose joints are under most strain. The 15kg bag is the size to buy if a joint supplement is going in every day anyway.

Feeding

• Feed dry or moistened with a little tepid water shortly before serving.
• Skinner's publish their daily amounts as a bodyweight chart rather than a single figure, so work from the guide printed on the bag and adjust to condition.
• Do not add a second glucosamine supplement on top without asking your vet — the Joint Aid is already in the food.
• Change over gradually, mixing an increasing share of the new food with the old across several days.
• A complete food requiring no further supplementation.
• Fresh drinking water at all times.
