Skinner's Field & Trial Maintenance Plus – 2.5kg

The 2.5kg bag is the way to see whether a dog does better with Joint Aid in its food than out of it, without buying a sack to find out. The recipe is Skinner's plain Maintenance — maize, wheat, poultry meat meal and barley at 18% protein and 11% fat — with the Joint Aid for Dogs supplement added.

Only two Field & Trial foods are made this way, this one and Turkey & Rice, so the choice between them is really a choice between a cereal-based ration and a rice-based one. This is the cereal-based option.

Performance & Benefits
  • Joint Aid for Dogs included in the food itself.
  • 18% crude protein and 11% crude fat for low to moderate activity.
  • Maize, wheat and barley base for steady energy without excess protein.
  • Crude fibre 2.6% and crude ash 5.6%.
  • Vitamin A at 17,500iu/kg with vitamin D3 at 2,000iu/kg and vitamin E at 200mg/kg.
  • 2.5kg is around a fortnight for a medium dog — enough to judge the change.
<>
Suitable For
  • Older adult dogs at a low to moderate activity level.
  • Working dogs resting between seasons.
  • Trying a joint-supplemented food before committing to a 15kg sack.
  • Dogs already on a separate glucosamine supplement that could be replaced.
  • Not for a cereal-sensitive dog — Field & Trial Turkey & Rice 2.5kg is the other Joint Aid recipe and is made without wheat, maize or barley.
<>
Feeding
  • Feed dry or moistened with a small quantity of tepid water.
  • Skinner's publish their daily amounts as a bodyweight chart rather than a single figure, so work from the guide printed on the bag and adjust to condition.
  • Stop any separate joint supplement, or check with your vet first — the Joint Aid is already in this food.
  • Allow six to eight weeks on it before judging whether stiffness has improved.
  • Change over gradually, mixing an increasing share of the new food with the old across several days.
  • Fresh drinking water at all times.
