Snowhill Over-Reach Boots – Large, Brown
Brown is the discreet option among these plain rubber overreach boots, and large sits between the medium and the extra large of the three sizes we stock. The boot itself is a moulded rubber bell that hangs over the hoof and absorbs the strike when a hind foot catches a front heel.
A double touch-tape strap fastens it, which is the practical difference between this and a pull-on boot: it goes on over a shoe without forcing and comes off with cold hands. Brown hides yard dirt better than a bright colour, at the cost of being harder to find in long grass.
<>Performance & Benefits
- Rubber bell shielding the heel bulbs and coronet from overreach injuries.
- Double touch-tape strap that opens wide for fitting.
- Large is the middle of the three sizes stocked in this range.
- Brown keeps a tidy look on a plain-coloured horse and does not show mud.
- Washes clean with a hose and dries quickly.
- Inexpensive enough to keep a spare pair in the lorry.
Suitable For
- Horses that catch their heels in trot work or on landing.
- Turnout in company, where horses knock into one another.
- Schooling and hacking on going that encourages a horse to reach.
- Owners who prefer tack that does not shout.
- Not for a horse with an unusually broad or round foot — the extra large in this range is the size to go up to.
How to Use
- Slip the bell over the hoof so the opening sits at the back.
- Do both straps up firmly enough to stop the boot rotating, without pinching the pastern.
- Walk the horse a few steps and re-check before you get on.
- Hose off after use and hang them to dry rather than stacking them wet.
- Clean bedding and hair out of the touch-tape so it keeps its grip.
Specification
- Rubber over-reach boot fastening with a double touch-tape strap.
- Size: large. Colour: brown.
- Snowhill Trade Saddlery run a trade-only, login-gated catalogue and publish no public dimensions, weight or material thickness for this boot, so none is stated here.
- A rubber thickness of 4mm appears on retail listings, including earlier copy on this page. It is not a figure Snowhill publish, so it is not asserted here.
- Also stocked in extra large (raspberry) and medium (turquoise).
Care & Caution
- Do not leave overreach boots on at turnout for days at a time. They rub, and brown makes an early rub harder to spot than a light colour does.
- Run a hand over the heel bulbs and pastern each time the boots come off.
- Wet mud trapped inside a boot is what causes most rubs. Take them off, rinse and dry.
